Book Release Day! “Prayers for the Pilgrimage”
It’s the official release day of our prayer book! Woo-hoo! But it’s also surgery day, so…woo-hoo?
Phaedra had to go into surgery this afternoon (all is well, thank God), but it’s meant that our book release day has gone differently than we’d imagined months ago. It’s a bummer—but it’s ok.
It’s what our prayer book is for: for real life.
“For Feeling Low.”
“For When Things Don’t Go According to Plan.”
“For Thanksgiving in the Healing of a Body.
And “For Good Labor when You Do Not Feel Like Laboring but You Need to Get Things Done.”
And “For the Little Things.”
And “For Daily Bread, Not Tomorrow’s Bread.”
And “For Being Kind Toward Oneself.”
And “For Being One Hundred Percent Honest with God.”
But we’re still pretty excited about the book release and we sure would love your help.
Would you consider buying the book?
Would you help us get the word out?
Would you take a picture of it and post it to social media—perhaps also choose a prayer or a painting that captures your imagination?
Would you tag us if you do?
Would you give it a rating and a review on Amazon et al?
And would you consider encouraging your people to get a copy?
We don’t take any of your help for granted and we sincerely thank you for it in advance.
Phaedra and I have dreamed of such a collaboration and we are so very grateful to IVP for putting their trust in us and producing such a beautiful object. We could not be more pleased with it.
Our hope, in the end, is that those who feel that their prayer lives have dried up will discover in these pages fresh language to revitalize their prayer lives. Our hope is that those who have lost the will to pray yet wish it were otherwise will find a bit of hope and help here. Our hope is that these prayers might help you to open up your heart to God anew and strengthen your bonds of affection with fellow pilgrims who earnestly wish for the same, however whole-hearted or faint-hearted they may be.
Really grateful, finally, for Doug McKelvey’s endorsement of our book, because he’s trailblazed a practice of liturgy-writing for many today that makes it easier for books like ours to find a hearing.
